UPS Tracker for USPS shipments
ebay provided a UPS tracking number after a purchase. When the status changed to "delivered" I looked for a package on my porch but found nothing. The photo on the UPS delivery status page was of some other porch, not mine. In the end the item was delivered by USPS and looked nothing like the package in the photo. I hope nobody else gets confused by the UPS/USPS partnership, unclear delivery location and photos of random porches. UPS could improve it's tracking website to state that a package was handed back to USPS.

UPS does have a service where they handle the long-haul and deliver to the local post office, while USPS then makes the local delivery, described as "the last mile". That arrangement is called "SurePost". FedEx has a similar arrangement called "SmartPost".
We frequently receive packages sent via SurePost. Sometimes we retrieve the packages from the post office, and sometimes the UPS driver throws protocol to the wind and delivers them to our door because we are on his way to the post office.
However, your situation sounds different. It would seem that the seller added a UPS tracking number to the sale that may have been for a different customer, while the USPS tracking number is the one you actually received. When you check your purchase history, do you see more than one tracking number?
