UPS lost purchase only to deliver it a month late, buyer refunded
Summary: lonewolf7907 shared their experience of two items being delivered a month late after UPS initially lost them. After refunding the buyers, the items were unexpectedly delivered. lonewolf7907 asked for advice on how to proceed, and comics-scifi-collectibles suggested options for handling the situation, including seller protection and re-listing. lonewolf7907 later confirmed that the buyers re-purchased the items, and all parties were satisfied with the resolution. comics-scifi-collectibles noted the importance of honest buyers in such situations.
Hello,
I had 2 individual purchases a month ago that UPS had lost, the buyers were refunded. Rcvd a message yesterday from 1 buyer that UPS had delivered the item yesterday a month late. I messaged other buyer noly to learn that item was also delivered a month late. If both or one of the parties wants to keep the item, how do I/they go about going thru the process. I suggested re-listing it with free shipping, thrn the buyer can go thru the purchaseing process again. This way ALL parties will be satisfied. The tracking# will be the same as previous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Tom.

OP3 weeks agoThank you for the reply, but I ended up doing was relisting both items both parties re-purchased and sent money and we’re all set. All parties are happy.

Mentor3 weeks ago@lonewolf7907 That's ok too as long as your account can absorb the "shipped" without tracking and your buyers are honest. Otherwise the buyers could file INR cases for the new purchases.

Mentor3 weeks ago@lonewolf7907 You may be eligible for seller protection>>
If you ship on time and refund the buyer when they ask through a INR refund request then you do qualify for Seller Protection if the item finally arrives IF you use an eBay shipping label. See this notice>
https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/news/2025-september/inr-policy-updates
If the buyer files an INR case and tracking shows movement then you can ask eBay to give the item more time to arrive.
Contact customer service on social media using a PRIVATE message and ask for seller protection as stated in the link I shared> https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
6am to 6pm Pacific Time M-F
For future orders>
Filing a missing mail search is helpful many times.
If not eligible for seller protection then these are the steps I recommend>
I would contact the buyer and say I see that your X finally arrived, I hope you are enjoying it. I would offer a small discount to encourage them to pay you back since part of your money is better than none.
#1 You will need to ask the buyer for their email address to send them a PayPal invoice
#2 You can share your PayPal email and they can send the money as friends and family or other electronic payment method such as Venmo
#3 They can snail mail you a check
#4 If they no longer want the item and have not opened it they can mark it as refused return to sender.
#5 You can send the buyer a return shipping label in eBay messages as a JPEG. Buy the label on Pirateship.com. They refund you for the label if it's not used within 30 days. They charge the same commercial base rates as eBay.
You are allowed to share contact information after a recent sale.

OP3 weeks agoThank you, both buyers were honest enough to let me know they had their packages so I just relisted them. They re-purchased and I sent original tracking information. All parties are square and happy and satisfied.
