Unscrupulous buyer trying to take advantage
Summary: decl_8 shared their experience of selling an item on eBay with a disclaimer about its authenticity, which a buyer later damaged while verifying. The buyer, discovering it was a reproduction, requested a refund. rfmtm advised that selling counterfeit items is illegal, suggesting that decl_8 might consider accepting the return to reclaim the item before issuing a refund.
I sold an item stating I don’t know if this is an original WW2 item or copy, buyer is collector and offered lower price, I accepted. Buyer immediately took item to expert and admits bending (damaging) to check for authentic or not, if authentic it’s valued according to Google search at $1,000-$5,000 plus, it’s a copy so right away after damaging the item and now knowing it’s a copy the buyer wants to return and get money back. In our EBay messages between buyer and me it’s stated there about the expert and the bending of the item. Please help me know how to handle this especially since this is probably normal behavior and I wouldn’t like to see this buyer doing this to a WW2 veterans spouse or family member if their in need and selling their family members souvenirs from the war and people like this are trying to hit a home run buy getting it from sellers at pennies on the dollar because of their lack of knowing the value and if no value sending it back for refund and then back on EBay with Predator ambitions of making a lot of money.
Please instruct me what to do.

Mentor1 week agoDepending on what exactly it is, you can not sell counterfeit items legally even if you put a disclaimer in the listing as to you "don't know". Accept the return if you want it back before refunding.
