Unreasonable buyer?
I need a litmus test to see what you all think.. a scanner I had for sale sold 7/24 late in the afternoon my time (late enough I couldn’t make USPS that night). I shipped first thing 7/25 morning. When I dropped it off I was advised it would be handled as HAZMAT due to having a battery and it could not fly priority due to this. I insured it and said that’s fine, shipped it off to California from Kansas (24 straight hours). It took until 6PM Friday evening to depart Wichita, right into the weekend. Not knowing how long USPS runs OTR trucks on weekend, I let my buyer know to expect a longer than normal shipping time due to it coming by ground.
The first message seemed odd from them, she said “Please ship immediately my boyfriend, going on vacation next weekâ€. It seemed like a scam so I asked to verify the address, it matched.
Ever since shipping the tracking keeps showing “In transit to next facility, arriving late†at midnight. The buyer is convinced it’s lost and filled a claim today despite me saying it will take longer, and that it shipped right before a weekend. It’s really only been shipped for two full business days so far, 3 at the end of today. Am I unreasonable for thinking this claim is a bit too soon? Considering I provided information about battery, HAZMAT requirements and it being ground only?
What should I do from here? I’ve worked hard to maintain 100% feedback over the years and I don’t want this to affect it. I also don’t want to issue a refund so fast only to have it show up and then they get a free $500 scanner and I’m out my funds. I advertised the listing as handling being two days, I made a point to ship it ASAP the next business day. I feel I’ve been very accommodating and communicative but was surprised to see a claim today that it hadn’t arrived despite everything else.

Mentor3 years agoI believe the case is premature, and ebay should have advised the buyer that it was too soon. When you go to your Orders > Paid & Shipped, and click to view Order Details, what is the estimated delivery date? The package is not considered late until it is one day late, and that is when the buyer should have opened the case. All you need to do is upload the tracking number into the case and ebay will see that the item is in transit.

OP3 years agoThat’s where it gets tricky. eBay estimated 7/28, but that’s based on standard priority shipping. I attempted priority but due to the battery, USPS told me it could not go by air and would take longer. It seems as though the buyer does not understand this and in a message just told me they can send a letter from CA to NY in three days… apples to oranges.
I added the tracking to the item immediately at shipping.
