Unpaid postage on eBay shpping label
Summary: mike_6043 is frustrated with a USPS package delay due to inadequate postage on an eBay shipping label. The package, initially shipped via UPS and transferred to USPS, is being held until eBay resolves the issue by paying the additional postage. jacbarcollectibles explains that this situation sometimes occurs with hybrid shipping services. Despite reaching out twice, eBay has not responded. comics-scifi-collectibles suggests the problem may stem from mishandled drop-offs or incorrect scanning and advises contacting eBay through social media for assistance, mentioning similar past issues. There is a specific concern about whether this involves an item sent to an authenticity center.
Update to a previous post. My package is being held up at a USPS center due to inadequate postage. They said because the shipping label was provided by eBay with inadequate shipping that only eBay can resolve it by paying the additional fee. It's now the property of the USPS according to them until the postage is resolved by eBay. I have yet to figure out how to speak with anyone at ebay to help resolve this.
I'm beyond frustrated with them. They charged me the selling fee of over $80 but also refunded the purchase money to the buyer since the package never arrived.

Mentor1 month agoThis is not how this usually works. Either the USPS would deliver the package to you with postage due or they would back charge the seller for the postage difference. The only times we have heard of this happening is when the seller shipped using a special FedEx service that has the USPS making the actual last mile delivery. If the seller does this and then turns the package in to the USPS and not FedEx like they are supposed to then the USPS will refuse to deliver the package since FedEx has not paid them for the delivery. What shipping method was shown on the listing?

OP1 month agoAccording to several other posts, this is exactly how it's been happening when you use the shared shipping option provided by eBay. It was sent with UPS, who then transferred it to USPS in the destination town. USPS is holding the package due to inadequate postage. I spoke with someone at USPS and then spoke with thier supervisor who confirmed the only party who can resolve it is eBay. They will not return it or take additional payment for the postage from the buyer or seller. Because it was a label supplied by a third party, eBay, the one and only way for it to be resolved is by eBay paying the additional postage. They've reached out to eBay 2 times and have had zero response. They stop reaching out after a second atempt with no response.

Mentor1 month ago · Edited@mike_6043 This is the problem with using a hybrid shipping service. Never use Fed Ex or UPS where USPS handles the final delivery. SOOO many problems with those services.
I recently helped another seller with the same issue. This usually happens if you drop off a Fed Ex or UPS package at the POST office. OR you use a pack and ship place and they scan the WRONG barcode. Then the package is confiscated by USPS and there is no way to retrieve it.
You can try customer service on social media but I don't think that they will be able to do anything.
Is this about the Gortex jacket that went to the authenticity center? IF it reached the authenticity center and is lost on the way to the buyer THEN eBay should be handling this.
