Unforeseen Circumstances
There was a fire at my post office and it appears that a package that I sent may have been affected by this but I don’t know for sure . I just know it says the post office is waiting for the item. What should I do ?

Did you have the package picked up, or did you drop it off at your P.O.? If you left it out for pickup, is it possible that it was stolen?
If you dropped it off in your P.O's. outgoing bin, it may not have been given an acceptance scan. Normally I would say to look up your P.O's. phone number online, but if there was a fire it my be out of service, so you should lookup and call the USPS customer service phone number online. Do tell the rep there was a fire at your P.O. and you had an outgoing package there and would like to know if it was lost in the fire or not and what to do if it was. You should receive a case number and if you need to pass it on to your buyer, you may also want to consider telling your buyer about the fire and if there was a news story about it tell them to look it up online to confirm your story.
After that if there's no tracking updates you may have to tell your buyer to file an item not received dispute the day after the last estimated delivery date, so they can get a refund, then deal with the USPS to file an insurance claim.
