Unfair Business Practices Applied To Sellers
I was advised by the moderator that my earlier post was taken down because it referred individually to the mentor I had been conversing with. My point in doing so was not meant to be a personal affront. I was simply highlighting the lack of a response as an aspect of ebay's deflection of its obligation to elaborate on the reasons underlying its casual application of vague standards that cause substantial damage to sellers' businesses.
Am I the only person who was suddenly dropped from Top Rated Seller classification to Below Standard without notice or an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding my alleged violation of ebay's Seller Standards? After striking purchase deals with three separate buyers over time, I had the misfortune to discover that each of the tems had been damaged while in storage.
In the spirit of good customer service, I advised each buyer of the fact and asked if they still wanted their items at a reduced cost, or if they'd prefer I canceled their order and issued a refund. All of them asked for the cancelation and a refund, which I provided.
Product breakage is not an option when checking boxes for a cancelation reason, so I indicated that the items were no longer in stock because they'd been damaged. This triggered a defective transaction for each by ebay, of which I was never given notice. I was deemed to have exceeded the 2% defective transaction ceiling and summarily dropped from Top Rated to Below Standard with no opportunity to explain what had happened.
When I finally worked my way through the byzantiine process required to speak with a live customer service representative, I was told that the buyer should have canceled instead of me doing so on their behalf. There was no indication of such a requirement in any ebay materials I was able to locate, however.
I find this lack of basic due process in application of ebay's vague, incomplete standard, together with the lack of an appeal process to be reprehensible and indefensible on every level. My complaints fall on deaf ears if they ever even reach a live being. I am to suffer through a month of meager, if any sales, until a determination is made whether I merit forgiveness. This amounts to a systemic failure to exercise any semblance of concern for my circumstances, positive intent underlying my customer service, or recognition of my prior performance, which had been on a steep upswing. Ebay's actions are foolish, pedantic and unforgivably stupid in my opinion. Are my expectations unreasonable?

Mentor1 year agoWhen the item you have listed for sale on Ebay is broken/damaged and unable to be sold, is no longer "in stock" and therefore "out of stock". Nothing to appeal.
Sellers should ensure that their items listed for sale on Ebay are carefully packed while in storage and protected from breakage/damage.

I know, but what else can eBay do, you disappointed 3 buyers that will probably think twice before buying on eBay again, eBay has millions of sellers and cannot afford to give each seller an opportunity to explain why the seller failed to fulfil the order, I would be upset too if I bought an item and seller tells me it was damaged in storage.
