Underpaid shipping label

I'm very new to eBay and only been selling on eBay for maybe a month. When listing an item when it comes time to choosing the shipping method the AI will show you the suggested method that it thinks is the best and so I chose that which was USPS. Customer bought my item for $12 and paid $9 and some change to cover shipping before the customer bought the item I tried to change the shipping method from USPS to FedEx and for some reason that I am not aware of you can change the shipping for some items but not for others and this was one that I could not change. The item was 30 railroad nails which was quite heavy. My only option was to refund the customer however while I was at work since I already had it packaged up my wife took it to the post office and since they label was underpaid $212 got charged to my eBay balance and now I have nothing. I'm on disability for being legally blind so my surprising limited success that I had suddenly with selling some items was truly a blessing with what little it was really helped me get through the month and now I have lost everything. I really wish the customer could have been billed for this and not me I know that it was my fault. I really wish that eBay could help me just one time and I will never make a mistake again. I do not know why the post office did not say anything to my wife they just simply took the package so she had no idea she was doing anything wrong. My eBay total funds went from $200 and something to negative $50. There were other underpaid shipping items as well that I was not aware of but this was the largest there was some for $70 and some for $50 and this has been happening the whole time and I have had no idea I have lost so much money around $400 or more I know that I probably I'm screwed but if I could just get the two 12 back that would get me back to where I was at least and I can just have learned my lesson with all of this

Mentor3 weeks agoAs the seller, you are responsible for selecting the shipping carrier, and inputting the correct weight and measurements for the packages you are shipping. You cannot ask the buyer for more money for shipping. Use calculated shipping and enter the correct weight and measurements for all of your items and let ebay calculate the shipping that the buyer pays.
