Underage User Account
Hi, I've just found my 11yr old has set up an ebay account on their school computer without our consent and managed to bid on an item as well. Is there still an age limit of 18 to set up an account/bid? Can't see a way to report an underage user account to ebay and shut it down. I've already emailed the seller to explain the situation so I'm hoping they will be understanding. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

You have a bigger problem, because your son could not bid on an item if they did not supply banking and/or debit credit card information that is needed to complete registration and allow them to bid or buy on ebay. Even registering as a guest buyer requires that financial information be tendered, before they can buy on ebay.
You may want to ask the little scamp, if they have gone through your wallet or took info from your bank account in order to register.
I wish I could tell you how to close that account, without waiting for 6 months for ebay to close it after a request has been filed. You may find an answer that will help by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking on the Security Center button under the Tools & Apps button.
Since you are registered as being in Australia, you may want to login to that site's community. This is the U.S. based site's community (ebay.com) your home site's community address is ...

OP1 year agoThankyou. Luckily no bank or credit card info is attached from what I can see, just an email and physical address on the account. We are in Australia but she bid on an item on the eBay USA site. Set the account up at school apparently and only confessed after panicking about clicking the bid button and seeing it actually went through. Told her she'll have to find a way to pay for anything she bid on including taxes and postage so I look forward to all chores, homework and extra duties being done for at least the next month! Hopefully its given her a good fright and a valuable lesson was learnt. If not, being grounded for a month with no tech should do the trick.

In addition to what @mudshark61369 has provided another concern is logging in to that account from different IP addresses AND if done at home the accounts will become "associated" via the IP address. I would be concerned that other school kids did the same thing and all used the school's IP address.
When accounts become "associated" and one receives a restriction they ALL can and will receive the same restriction. This can also happen if a friend or distant family member comes to your house and logs in to their eBay account on your WiFi or other internet access system.
To close the account you may be better served by doing it at the school on their system, not only to avoid IP account association issues but also as an example for other children and what NOT to do. I won't get into how the school is monitoring the kids activity online but obviously this is a concern.
