Uncovering Lost Car Purchase Records
Summary: bhol2517 asked for advice on retrieving lost car purchase records from the past eight years and sought tips for managing personal records, especially regarding dealership and financial institution documentation. wooden_flower responded, clarifying that assistance could only be provided for eBay transactions, not for other sources. They advised how to request eBay purchase data and emphasized their limitation in assisting with non-eBay records.
Have you ever faced difficulties in retrieving old purchase records or documentation? I can't seem to find the details of three car purchases I've made over the last eight years. If you've encountered a similar situation, how did you go about resolving it? Please share any tips or strategies that might help in locating lost records, whether through dealerships, financial institutions, or other avenues. What role did digital records play, if any, in your search?
In sharing your experiences, let's also discuss the importance of maintaining personal records, how to manage them effectively, and what systems you've found helpful in staying organized over the years.

This probably won't help you with what you want, but I once donated an automobile to the Salvation Army. I didn't have any details about when I had purchased it either, all I had was the title.
I wasn't donating it for a tax write off, but since I was donating it anyway, I certainly wasn't about to pass up a tax deduction. But, as I said, I had no details about what I had paid originally, or any improvements I'd made, to have a documented cost basis.
So, to determine the amount of my deduction, I started digging through the car advertisements. I checked everywhere for '76 Camaros for sale, and kept the sources for the highest priced ones out there. Newpaper ads, that weekly trader you pick up at the grocery store, anywhere at all that cars were advertised.
There were some pretty cherry cars advertised, worth more than mine, but those were the ones I used for determining the cost basis for my deduction.

We are here to help with only eBay transactions. If purchased through eBay, you can recover limited data - item name, price and seller.
You can order a report of all of your purchases. Go to account settings >> request your eBay data.
We cannot help you with recovering data from other sources.
