Unauthorized use of my credit card setting up a fraudelent EBay GUEST account.
I started getting charges on my credit card for purchases on ebay. I called capital one and closed the card and disputed the charges. Capital one, however, is not reimbursing the charges because EBay said they were legit. They don't show up in my EBay account. However after giving EBay the transaction number they said that it was a "Guest Account" that somehow some was using my credit card with my name and address. WHY is EBay letting people set up "Guest Accounts". I didn't authorize that. Ebay told the credit card company that they were delivered to my address. Nothing arrived at my house.
This is nuts.

Mentor11 months agoIf someone has obtained your credit card number and used it without your authorization, you need to contact your credit card issuer.
If your credit card issuer will not respond appropriately when you point out that your card has been used without your authorization, then you need to find a new credit card issuer.
eBay can only help you with your eBay account; eBay cannot help you if someone has used your credit card with a different eBay account.

OP11 months agoEven though I have had an Ebay account for 20 years, EBay allowed someone to open a GUEST account using same name and address and the make orders using credit card information they had stolen. EBay is culpable for this OBVIOUS fraud.

Mentor11 months agoAnyone that knows your credit card info can make similar purchases on just about any site.
Most reputable card issuers will allow you to dispute charges you did not authorize.
