Unauthorized charity deduction
Why would there be an $85 charity deduction on something that I've sold when I'm not a charity and I've never authorized any charity donation for the three previous things that I sold yet on the most expensive one I somehow donated $85 which was never authorized

Your listing shows the 10% to the charity, going back to the original listing on 4/2, and both relistings.
You can try cancelling the donation - eBay usually allows 1 cancellation. Go to your pending donations and see if cancel is an option. https://www.donation.ebay.com/dashboard/pending
Something I suggest to all new sellers is to view your own items in search to see how they appear to potential buyers. This gives you a chance to see if your shipping charges look reasonable, make sure you lie the main photo you selected, and notice things like the ‘benefits charity’ tag. Just click on your user ID, then click see items for sale.
One other suggestion - don’t waste your money using a reserve price - you’re paying the fee each time your auctions relist. Just start your auctions at the lowest price you are happy to accept instead.

OP2 years agoThis is my first time ever selling anything on eBay and I am just completely floored at the fees. It was an item I just sold for $850 which was originally listed. I had to reserve of a thousand. They charged me $75 to post it as well as $9.99 to promote it. Then when it just sold for $850 they took $124 and somehow that donation was on yet. The three previous things I sold the donation was not on and I did everything identical. So my $850 sale after the $100 shipping and the $297 that they charged between listing, selling and charity is now less than 500 bucks. Like I said this is my first Time.

Mentor2 years ago@jolal_16 NEVER use a reserve price. Always start auctions at a price you will be happy with if you get just one bid. Reserve Price is an optional listing upgrade fee and is due the moment you list the item.
Promoting a listing is also optional. Auctions had Express promotion fees which were charged the moment you list if you chose to use it. However that feature has ended and now Auction Promotion fees will only be due IF the item sells starting on April 29th.
Any fee you see at the bottom of the screen before you list an item is due even if the item doesn't sell or you cancel the listing.

OP2 years agoThanks. I never thought of doing the starting bid the same as the reserve fee eliminating that fee, but I didn't know about these fees until I listed five things and was $133 in the hole. Then I sold the first thing and never saw a dime because it was only $100 sale and I only made 89 bucks which they applied right towards the listing fees. Which I have 250 of but I guess the reserve price thing got me. Thanks again. You've been very helpful

Did you use ‘sell one like this’ to start the listing with the donation? I’m wondering if it carried over from that. This would be something to watch for before you click ‘list it’. I know there’s a lot to look at. There’s nothing wrong with saving your item as a draft, take a break, then come back and finish it. I still do this, and still find things to fix, even after selling thousands of items.
The $75 is the fee for putting the reserve price on the auction. Instead of using the reserve, just start the auction at the lowest price you want, and save the fee.
You have reserve prices on some of your other items - you should consider removing it right before the auction ends if you don’t get any bids, so that it will not be charged again on the relisting of the unsold auctions.

OP2 years agoThat's exactly what I did. Can I cancel this sale? Revise it and relist it? Send a message to the buyer and let them know that I am relisting it?

Did you check your pending donation page to see if you can cancel the donation? You should do that first.
You really do not want to cancel the sale.

Mentor2 years ago@jolal_16 Just reinforcing that you do NOT want to cancel the sale. As you will not like how the refund to the buyer works. Plus as @wooden_flower said you need to check on the charity donations page and see if you can cancel the donation.
This is how refunds work>>>
Refunds, even for order cancellations, come out of your available funds not pending or held. If you do not have available funds then eBay charges your back up payment method for selling costs.
Have you entered your backup payment method for selling costs here: https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list Select Manage under the method you want to use then select Preferred for selling costs. I use a credit card.
Once you issue the refund and the buyers funds are released from being held or finish processing then the buyers payment is released to you.

OP2 years agoWhere do I find pending donations?

Mentor2 years ago@jolal_16 Your listing had the Benefits charity on it for a charity called
Free Geek. Free Geek is a Portland-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We sustainably reuse technology, enable digital access and provide education to create a community that empowers people to realize their potential.
Always check your listings before you submit them that there is nothing checked that you don't want. I don't think you can cancel this in anyway. If you cancel the sale the charity donation is still due.

OP2 years agoI find it odd that I've done every sale exactly the same, yet nothing has ever come up as a charity donation on my previous sales.
