unable to type a message to a seller about a defective item

Question

When I go to the message center to type a message to the seller about a defective product I ordered it won't let me type anything. what am I supposed to do?

@telsrow ,You do not need to contact the seller, go to your purchase history click on the More Actions button for the item, then Return Item, select one of the reasons Defective item will do, then follow through to post the dispute. If you mean eBay's "improved" message system? If it looks like this then you actually have to click into the single line Send message field at the bottom of the page and start typing. eBay for some strange reason migrated away from the INDUSTRY STANDARD of starting to type in the upper lefthand corner of the page ...
