Trying to get Ebay to take counterfeit items seriously
I have tried numerous times to report counterfeit copies of tour posters from my favorite rock bands. These posters are limited editions, usually signed/numbered, and usually sell out during the tour. This site is awash with cheap knock-off copies, frequently in two sizes which the originals never are, from sellers in southeast asia where these bands do not tour. I have explained all this to Ebay, taking the time to go through all the gyrations with the robot to speak to a live agent (or at least I assume they are... maybe robots are getting more sophisticated) but nothing is ever done. Even if the account gets deleted there's another one five minutes later. Meanwhile they are taking money from artists, some of whom I know personally.

Each listing on eBay has a report link. You can report the listings you know are counterfeit. There is also the VeRO program. That would be for those that own the rights to these posters to tell eBay to take down listings that violate their trademark or brand. The VeRO program route would be much more impactful.

OP2 years agoYes I have tried that numerous times. Mostly they are almost immediately dismissed. Finally after pushing the issue I got someone to explain to me that "copyright is complicated" (e.g. they will not make the effort to research the actual ownership of each item, especially if the seller is offshore). But apparently no drop-shipping is a rule they take seriously and I had more success with that.
