Tried to cancel my order right after I made it.
I thought I was purchasing a CD but it wasn't a CD. I tried to cancel immediately but found out that the seller wouldn't accept my cancellation. Now I have the item and to return it - I must pay for shipping. No respectful merchant would do business like this. I have learned my lesson - no Ebay for me.

There are at least 17 MILLION individual Selling accounts on eBay and Sellers have flexibility on how they structure their business. This includes among other things setting up their return policies. You certainly have the option on where you shop and if you happen to change your mind about eBay just make sure you read the details on any items you are interested in. If the return policies are not to your liking by one seller you can certainly look at other Sellers.

OP1 year agoToo complicated. I will just stick with responsible merchants that offer customer service and care about their customers. No more EBay for me.

OP1 year agoTo let you know, Ebay gave me a complete refund for this purchase just now. I guess they also agreed that the seller was unreasonable to not cancel this order. My husband also sells on Ebay and will cancel any order that a customer wants cancelled if done right away. They do care about customers.

Glad to hear it worked out. I cancel a transaction when requested unless it has already shipped but I also offer 30 day Free Returns on everything I sell. I also cancel bids on Auctions if asked to, no questions asked. As mentioned and I am sure your husband knows this, each Seller can set up parts of their account within eBay's parameters. While I don't buy much on eBay I always look at a Seller's return policy and if they use the No returns accepted setting I pass them by without hesitation. To me that is not good business nor good customer service. While eBay has work arounds for Buyers on the No returns accepted setting I avoid having to potentially jumping through hoops and pass up those Sellers.

Mentor1 year agoMaybe your husband, who you say also sells on eBay, could give you some helpful tips, starting with something like make sure you want the item before you buy it.

Mentor1 year ago@glopot3495 r u saying the seller should pay for your mistake?
or r u saying the seller did not describe the item properly on the listing?
not sure what your post implies.
fyi- eBay won't notice u leaving bc this is a community board, not an ebay employee board

The seller did nothing wrong.
Sellers are not obligated to approve requests to cancel a transaction.
Since you do not have a valid reason for return under Ebay's Money Back Guarantee, you will be required to pay for the return shipping costs.
