It could just be a typo - his past sales of this item have been at $37.99.
Or perhaps he can’t find the last one or knows he is out of stock so he set the price at way more than anyone would pay. This is what sellers used to do before eBay created the ability to keep an item active with 0 available - maybe this seller is not aware of this feature, although it has been available for many years.
You could message the seller and ask why the item is priced so high 🙂
Actually I did ask and I'm still waiting for a response. Interesting about the out of stock thing. I've been an eBay member for many years and I never heard of that. I looked at his past sales via feedback and all the responses were eBay auto generated.
Not all of his feedback is automatic, but he is a high volume seller so there is a lot of automated entries (I wish they had this when I was a seller 😁). If you view his feedback by most relevant instead of most recent, you’ll see feedback from buyers first.
I don’t remember when they created the out of stock option, but I used it when I was an active seller, and I retired 6 years ago. So maybe 10 years ago?
I never had much experience as a seller, so maybe I just never heard of it. I just wonder how many people see this and get the wrong idea. It seems to me that it would give buyers a negative vibe about doing business on eBay. I don't think it's a very good practice. It'll be interesting to see what the sellers reply will be. (If he replies)

Mentor4 months agoIt could be either a typo since the seller has a similar item priced at 37.99, or priced it as such as a "placeholder".
