If you took it to the carrier's counter and the clerk scanned it they may have had their scanner set for Delivery instead of Receipt for shipment. We've seen this happen from time to time. If you just dropped off without getting a counter scan the same thing could happen as clerks process inbound and outbound packages at their location.
