The buyer claimed the item was not as described when it was described accurately - why does teh seller have to pay return shipping?

OPAug 10, 2026 at 3:30 PMThanks for the insight. Rule is: The buyer is always right, no matter what in most cases.

OPAug 10, 2026 at 3:24 PMThe report buyer link will not work so it is useless for this reason.

-Buyers are protected by the eBay Money Back Guarantee and you should become familiar with it just so you know what they can and cannot do in some circumstances: : eBay Money Back Guarantee policy
-One very important thing to do is use the Report Buyer link on the sold item and alert eBay that the Buyer is making a false claim.
-When you get the item back review your Seller protections to see if any apply, like the false claim means you might be able to withhold the Buyer's original paid shipping. If they switched the item out for something else or they damaged the item you might be able to withhold up to 50% of the item price to help cut you loss.

Ebay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee. That Guarantee overrides an individual Seller's return policy.
If thr Buyer opens an Item Not as Described return request, even if it's not true, you only have three business days to respond with either a prepaid return label or a refund.
If you don't respond on time, eBay can step in and force the refund and the Buyer keeps the item.

OPAug 10, 2026 at 3:14 PMInteresting. I'm sure and handful of people take advantage of this loophole since there is no way to get Ebay to is it is untrue as they will not communicate.
