Taxes
Hi, I've been trying to contact eBay because they're charging me taxes, but the place where they receive the packages is a free trade zone. Does anyone know if there's a way to resolve this, since I buy a lot but now I'm being charged taxes?

First, I see you are located in Uruguay.
Next, we have no account access here so need more information with regard to how you are purchasing from US sellers.
-If you use a US Freight forwarding company based here int he US then you are subject to paying US sales tax which is determined by the State your forwarding company is located in. Of our 50 states only 5 have no Sales tax. When you purchase Sellers are charged and additional 1.65% on the TOTAL you pay because you are based outside the US. It is an international sales fee and to be honest, many Sellers do not like when that happens to them.
-If you are Buying with an address from Uruguay you will have to google what duty, customs fees, etc apply to your US purchases from Sellers who offer International shipping to your country. those charges are set outside eBay by government agencies.
The FTZ you are referring to, is that located in your country?

OP4 months agoHello, thank you very much for your response. My user account is from Uruguay, but the shipments are sent to the postal code 33106-4803, located in Miami, Florida. It's a free trade zone there, and I've never been charged taxes, not even from China. Amazon doesn't charge me taxes either. At the moment, only eBay charges me taxes.

Unfortunately, in googling that what I found is that ZIP code itself is not part of a U.S. government-recognized FTZ. Regardless of what other venues do eBay is following the Marketplace Facilitator Laws that were enacted for the benefit of US States to collect sales tax on Domestic Internet sales. When you purchase from eBay with a US address then the transaction is subject to any Sales Tax charged by the state the address is in.
"A Marketplace Facilitator is a business or platform that facilitates sales for third-party Sellers and is responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax on their behalf."
You are welcome to reach out to eBay via Instagram if you want to try and be in direct contact with them.

Import Customs, Duty and Taxes on a standard Uruguayan Hug are running about 27.5% as of this writing ... LOL.
