Taxes
I have been selling EYEWEAR on Ebay for a few years. Now all my professional life I never charged Taxes on Rx Eyewear to people. They are non-taxable in NY, We can do this in I believe, 14 other states. So why has ebay been charging me..and even adding the tax to my bottom line, before deducting their % off.
Ebay has been charging me even if I sold prescription Eyewear to those states.
Don't get me wrong ..I like ebay and am not going to leave it..but can I get an answer.
This is about Prescription Eyewear only. Sunglasses I know are taxable. Can someone please help ...with what I can do .

Mentor2 years agoSales tax is based on where the item is delivered. I don’t know that frames that can be bought without a prescription would be considered prescription eyewear, especially since you could have non-prescription lens made for them and use them as a fashion accessory. eBay will always take the conservative interpretation of tax law.
I think you would have to call your state department of revenue to get a ruling, which still would only apply to your instate sales.
