I committed to purchase used helmet from private seller and ebay wants to charge me a tax.
Anyone with similar experience?
Customer service from Philippines had no clue how to solve the issue

Correction: The state you are sending the item to requires eBay to collect the sales tax on their behalf based on their sales tax laws and remit it back to them.
It makes no different whether the item is used or not. (You pay sales tax in an antique store or thrift store...)

·3 years agoSales tax is determined by the state that the item is shipped into. No state that charges sales tax has a general exemption for "used items".

There probably is no issue to solve.
If you are having the item shipped to one of the 40+ states that require eBay to collect tax … then eBay must collect tax from you.
[No distinction is made between new and used items by any state.]
