tax on silver

Question

In the past 3 days I have made 2 silver bullion purchases- one from Florida- one from Illinois, and have been charged tax. I reside in Tennessee where we have no tax on precious metals... Has anyone else run into this issue in 2026 ???

Very helpful info- I'm thinking the sellers had the items listed wrong (taxable, as you suggest) & I truly didn't look until after the fact... Appreciate it!

Whether an item is taxed depends on the law in the state the item is being delivered to and the category in which the item is listed. If a seller lists a non-taxable item in a taxable category, eBay will collect the sales tax.

If you notice a sales tax line at checkout before you commit to the purchase, check which category the item is listed in.
