OP10 months agoYes, you caught my incorrect wording!
This was arrived at in frustration by several un helpful attempts to ask (in many different wordings) my central "question" to the automated "Ebay Help" provision, which was and is simply:
Why am I being taxed on shipping as part of the total cost (Item + Shipping + plus item's tax) on my purchase?
Thank you for your kind reply to my question even though it wasn't stated clearly ...you caught the jist of it!

Yes, more than half of the 50 United States do impose sales taxes on shipping prices paid by people who buy things online. Therefore, it is likely that your state's laws require eBay to charge and collect sales taxes on shipping costs.
The text -- the words themselves -- of your post have nothing to do with the title of your post:
"Why does Ebay always ADD the shipping cost to the item's cost to determine the buyer's total cost?"
Isn't it obvious? The buyer's total cost is the result of adding the shipping cost and ("plus") the item's cost.
And since you mention in the title of this post, "tax on shipping", eBay also adds sales tax in order to arrive at the buyer's total cost.
