Tax on precious metals

Why do I keep getting charged tax on precious metals. I have contacted ebay several times and it is an absolute fight to get my tax money refunded. I have spoken with them several times about this and nothing has changed. Please help

I have long been under the impression that eBay does NOT refund sales taxes when a buyer claims they were erroneously charged. IF a seller agrees to refund you partially on a purchase -- say, you weren't completely satisfied with whatever it was you purchased -- I believe eBay does refund sales taxes in that situation. And those situations ONLY. But it may take a few days. And that is not the situation you have described in your post. You may have better results if you request your sales tax refund through your State. Start with your State's official website.

The problem is most likely the seller is listing the items in a category that is taxable. Sales tax on eBay is based on the category the item is listed in and not what the item is. So if the seller lists the item in the wrong category then it will be taxed. eBay has no way of knowing if the item is listed in the correct category or not when it is listed.
