Tax on non-taxable item
eBay has started charging me sales tax on an item that is non-taxable in my state and I have purchased in the past without paying sales tax. State tax law in my state has not changed regarding the item I want to purchase. Has anyone else experienced this? I might as well skip eBay and buy the same item in a local grocery store with no sales tax charged.

Mentor4 months agoYou are being charged sales tax due to the CATEGORY the seller listed the item in. For example, in PA, there is no sales tax on clothing, but the item has to be listed in the Clothing/Shoes/Accessories categories. If a jacket is listed in Sporting Goods, for example, the buyer would be charged sales tax.
