Why am I being charged tax on clothing being delivered to New Jersey

Mentor6 months agoI assume the state of New Jersey does not normally charge/collect sales tax on clothing.
(I'm in California and can barely keep up with my own state's sales tax variations.)
eBay generally follows the sales tax laws of the state and charges sales tax at the percentage in effect in the zip code of the delivery address. On eBay, however, the category of the listing also is part of the algorithm or calculation of sales taxes.
Was your clothing listed in a clothing or apparel or accessories (like a belt or gloves) category ?
Or was it, perhaps, listed in Sports Equipment or Camping/Outdoors Equipment?
This question has come up several times in these forums, when people bought shirts or jackets with their favorite professional sports teams' logos, names, and colors, which were listed in Sports Memorabilia.
That could be the reason why you were charged sales tax on your purchase.
