The tax exemption applies to all items purchased on the account. What you can do is open another account so you have one for resale purchases and one for personal purchases.
Not that I am aware of BUT in our state when reporting our purchases for our state Tax ID we can also enter an amount for items purchased that will be kept for personal use. I may spend any where from $ 25,000 to $ 40,000 annually for inventory and may wind up keeping a small percentage (Last year around $ 750) for personal use. I've been doing that for as long as I have had the Tax ID without issue.
Check your state's reporting requirements, I am sure they have something similar in place.
