Suspicious listing
Hello,
I’m looking to bid on a top of the line bicycle but I’m seeing the following red flags:
1- the seller opened their account on Aug 15 and has no history. The account has a strange name.
2- the pictures seem stock and that of a new bike with white background (albeit not the ones on the manufacturer’s website). I asked the seller if they could send other pictures two days ago but I have not received a response.
3- all similar bikes I have been following start at a few thousand dollars. This one started at less than $100 for a like new 2023 bike with a $12k MSRP. Also, there seems to be no reserve.
4- there have been 50+ bids from 11 bidders but most of the bids are coming from two bidders
5- it says it will be shipped from South Carolina, free, but with an estimated delivery of mid October. I live in NYC
6- the bidding ends at 3:30am local time tomorrow
In case I win and this happens to be effectively a fraudulent listing, is there a risk I lose my money? Of course, I will only go through ebay and refuse to make an offline payment. Would ebay pay the seller after a certain time before they ship or that I receive? What if they send me something else, how would I prove I’m telling the truth.
