surcharged for delivery
Hello,
I won an auction for a couple of items (5) and eBay charged me with shipping cost for every single of them.
However, the seller grouped all the purchased items and sent them in a single package under a single tracking number.
I basically got charged around 34 USD five times.
What should I do, what would you do ? (seller is not answering my request)
Thanks!

OP1 year agoThanks for claryfing the shipping charge topic, I was not aware of that as I'm not a seller. I understand that perfectly but as stated by the user "glorybells"...well... I doubt that 170 USD were necessary in my situation (i state that based on my purchase experiences and the tiny items that I bought from this seller...) and so far the shipping fees were always enough as I never got charged more after a purchase.
Well I guess this was Christmas in advance for this person...
"Most sellers are happy to work with buyers that purchase multiple items to give them a combined shipping discount. I've only ran across a few sellers that are really stubborn about this and unfortunately you found one too"
Please understand that this is not the same situation in my case. It's not :
"you bought 5 items, i'm gonna send 5 packets, you'll pay 5 times the shipping fees"
it is : "you bought 5 items, no problem I'm gonna send this in one unique packet, and thanks for paying for 4 virtual ones looser". The tiny packet is on its way by the way.
This is not an honest seller if he/she doesn't come back to me, we can all agree on that. I'll then take the time write an appropriate review if I don't get any feedbacks from that person. The seller might be also away or not fully aware of what happened, time will decide.
Put yourself in my shoes, how would you deal with it ? I know you're experienced sellers and willing to defend another fellow seller but in such situation, I don't get it.
I hope in any cases that my experience will help other eBay buyers to learn from "my mistake".

Mentor1 year agoEbay can't force the seller to return anything to you. You need to get in touch with the seller. I know this has to be frustrating, but it is your seller that has to voluntarily refund you.
In the future, reach out to your seller before purchasing stuff and have an agreement about the shipping costs.
I hope your seller will work with you.

OP1 year agoI honestly think that I got scammed.
Seeing that all my purchasesd items are being grouped for single shipping and having sent the seller 5 times the shipping fees makes it kinda obvious...I wouldn't complain if 5 different parcel were prepared, it would have been stupid and my probably my fault but at least the money goes where it was supposed to...here it landed right in the sellers pocket...
of course, the seller turns a deaf ear, how odd!
Stating that the seller has to "voluntary refund me" is not correct in this situation. The money is not his/her, it had to be used for shipping as stated by eBay, it was maliciously converted into money profit. I have to get the extra I gave back.
This situation is an open door for scamming...he/she could do this as often as he/she wants and get away with it ?

·1 year agoAlthough it shouldn’t cost as much as what you’re talking about , shipping charges the buyer is paying don’t just cover the actual carrier cost. Sellers are permitted to fold in a handling fee, to cover shipping materials, gas to the post office, etc.

Mentor1 year agoI know it is frustrating, but what I shared with you is correct. You are correct that the amount a seller charges you is for carrier costs, but it also can covers shipping supplies and selling fees. AKA Shipping and Handling. There is no requirement that all the funds a buyer pays for shipping has to be turned over to the carrier. That has never been a rule.
Most sellers are happy to work with buyers that purchase multiple items to give them a combined shipping discount. I've only ran across a few sellers that are really stubborn about this and unfortunately you found one too.
I'm really sorry this happened to you.
