Super Frustrated with lost shipment
I sell random garage sale items, collectibles, household items I am not a mass quantity store. I use ebay shipping to prevent issues (like this) with tracking and help buyer satisfaction.
A was alerted that a recent buyer had not received their item. The original item was "shipped" - DROPPED OF BY HAND to the post office on April 3rd. Had the ebay purchased label on it. The buyer contacted me April 15th to check on it (super nice about it), at that point I checked for the buyer and reported that tracking said green dot -sent, green dot - in transit but delayed beyond estimated delivery date for an unknown reason. The tracking info was available for all of us to see as it was directly with ebay.
I have the message correspondence between the buyer and I but no other info after I dropped it off.
But now all the tracking info is blank. It is gray, and says that USPS is awaiting receipt of the item.
Short of asking for video footage of me walking into the post office, how do I find this package? I already issued the refund to the buyer because whatever it was like $10 ( actually $20 with all the fees) but I really want to know where it went. Did USPS just throw my package away? Did the buyer actually receive it and is a big fat scammer liar? Did the delivery guy throw it in the bushes? Did a bumbum porch prate abscond with it?... -_- Super frustrated with this scenario, as NOW I am out the money AND a sellable item because it was shipped with this now untrackable ebay label information. I guess I'm glad it wasn't something significant. It just makes me not want to try to stuff here.
I know this more of a Rant then a question but is this a common situation? Is there anything I can do to protect myself other then really charging outrageous fees to buyers for shipping protection?
