Sub category for parts of an item, for example items I search in collectable tools...
I believe there should be sub categories for items that you are trying to view without having to see hundreds of parts of that item. Example would have a sub category like for parts of (collectable tools) planes and not have to look and waste my time looking at a screw or bolt of a used plane when all I want to view are complete tools.
eBay should review the way we have to search for particular items with more category's like parts of items.

Mentor2 years agoJust because a category exists does not mean that sellers will actually make good use of it, or that some sellers will not still list parts in other categories where they think that the most potential buyers will see them. So most likely you would still have to find other ways to filter or sort the items you want to see and avoid things you do not.
eBay has been moving in the direction of having fewer categories overall, but allowing finer filter options to distinguish things inside those categories.
Sorting by "Best Match" or "Price plus shipping: highest first", and using a price range or at least a price floor may help put the things you are interested in at the top of your search, at least. Excluding keywords and using filter options can help as well.

If you are interested in a comprehensive search, you may need to decide which is more important: avoiding false positives (seeing incomplete items or parts in your results) or avoiding false negatives (missing out on a complete tool that you did want to see). It is easy to do one or the other, but hard to do both effectively at the same time.
It may help to use more than one search. One search that finds only the most likely listings at first, perhaps a saved search that alerts you when specific new candidate items are listed that you are especially interested in.
And then a more thorough search or category browse that finds everything including borderline results so you do not miss anything, that you can scan through quickly once in a while looking for hidden gems the first search missed. If you sort by "Newly listed" you be sure to prioritize items listed since the last time you checked.
