Stolen user name
Has anyone ever had their user name stolen. I have been off of eBay for years and tried to log back in and change my password. When I did this, a different e-mail and phone popped up. I never closed the account. I called an agentand the person would help me if I had the correct account information . Which of course I can’t supply because the phone and e-mail have been changed. What should I, or can I do??

Mentor2 years agoIf you have not used the account in years, eBay may have closed the account to prevent it from being hijacked by a scammer. If that is what happened, anyone could have registered a new account using that same name after thirty days, or else changed the name of an existing account.
Check the registration date of the account and see if it is different than when you created your account originally.

OP2 years agoHow do I check that? I called a customer service person and gave all of the info I could and they basically told me since I was not the account owner they could do nothing for me. I told them the approx date the account was open back in 1999 and they said that they could not answer because I was not the account holder. Very frustrating.

Mentor2 years agoGo to your feedback page for the account you are using now, then edit the page address to put the old username in place of your current username. That should get you to the feedback page of the current account with that username. See if that account was registered in 1999 -- if not, most likely eBay removed your old account, and someone else has registered a new account with the old name, or has changed the name of their account.

OP2 years agoI tried that and it said "Looks like this user name is taken". It didn't let me see the year of origin for the bigtoddk account.

That is the message you see when you try to register a new account using a name that is already in use.
Instead of doing that, you want to see the feedback page of the old account name. What is the name of the account you are trying to check?
