stolen shipments
I had 3 items I had sold stolen from my front porch while awaiting my postal carrier's pickup (1.5 hour time frame!) I assume they were gone before the carrier arrived as I never received their confirmation of pickup. I cancelled each item and ruefully explained to each buyer and immediately refunded them in full. Now Ebay has written me and lowered my "seller performance" and fallen below their minimum standards! How was I supposed to handle this without getting dinged like this....what do I do now?

Sell as much as you can to increase your performance levels. They are calculated on a percentage basis, so the more you sell, the lower the percentage of defects.
You are responsible for getting the packages to the carrier and for obtaining a scan. I don't know if your packages were stolen or the carrier just didn't scan them, but it's up to you to ensure they enter the postal stream.
Personally, I would never leave packages by my door for a pickup with all the porch pirates out there stealing packages. To them, it's a career... If I'm not going to be home for the pickup, I take my packages to the post office on the way to wherever I'm going. Another option would be to schedule your pickup at your work location or a friend or relative's residence who will be home. Whatever the solution you come up with, this is something you need to solve and have a plan for to avoid more defects.
