Stinky purchase

Question

I purchased 20 pounds of “clean” cherry pits from a seller that included shipping. What I received was large, dark brown pits, many broken, and they had a very strong rotten smell.
I have purchased boxes of this item from other sellers and know that the pits should have a blonde color, they are smaller and barely noticeable wood sent. I make small packs and give them as gifts.

In good faith, I tried soaking a few small batches (about five pounds worth) in a soap, bleach solution. Rinsed until no signs of suds and never smelt the bleach. Set the batches out in the sun to dry.
The seller says that nothing is wrong with them, that nobody has ever complained, and that some have suggested putting essential oils on the pits to adjust the smell.
He said that I can ship them back but he couldn’t accept any that had been washed. I would have to pay for shipping. I spent over $80 total and I don’t believe I should be paying to ship rotten pits. I don’t think he should be selling such a poor product.
I’m having difficulty trying to get eBay to answer my concerns.

If they aren't as described then you open an item not as described case with eBay. The seller will have to pay for a return label and give you a refund when they come back.
