·2 years agoIt certainly sounds fishy to me. If you bought the item on eBay, then eBay already collected your state's sales tax. If the item is coming into the US from overseas, the customs threshold (de minimis) for private individuals is $800 before a tariff is charged.
Is the overseas seller shipping an item from a US warehouse? There may be a hole in their contract with the warehouse, but that is their problem, not yours.
What is the item number?
