State sales tax on shipping charges when your state says that no sales tax on shipping only handling
eBay charging state sales tax on shipping charges when California only charges sale tax on handling that is a lot of customers money being charged for wrong teason

Mentor6 months agoeBay collects sales taxes pursuant to the laws of the state of delivery of a Sold item.
(The state where the seller is located has no bearing on eBay's collection of sales taxes.)
Five states charge no sales taxes at all. Of the remaining 45 states, more than half of them charge sales taxes on shipping charges as well as, of course, on the price of the sold item.
California does not charge sales taxes on either a shipping charge or a handling charge.
On eBay, when a seller adds a handling charge to his/her Shipping Policy/ies, that handling charge is included in the "delivery price" seen by a potential buyer who opens that seller's listing(s).

Mentor6 months agoSales tax is charged based on the location the item is being shipped to. Although California may not tax shipping charges many States do charge sales tax on shipping charges.
