Somebody STOLE my artwork and is selling on Ebay
I am an artist who created a limited-edition screenprint (signed and numbered) of Stephen Sondheim.
I never sold it through Ebay. Somebody has taken my artwork and is selling it on Ebay. I sent a message to seller to take it down as it is STOLEN property.
I reported the item and Ebay has returned a decision (by automation) that it didn’t violate their policy. **WTH*?!
Other than getting a lawyer and suing Ebay and the seller, what are my options here?
(This the SECOND time this has happened with this same artwork.)

Mentor1 year agoDid you get permission from Sondheim to use his likeness for profit? If not that may be your first problem.
Is the other seller selling an original they obtained legally, which they are allowed to do. Or are they selling a counterfeit copy of it?

OP1 year agoBlaming the artist / victim. Yes. I got an email from Sondheim last week saying it was fine.
It’s a counterfeit of my work.

Mentor1 year agoNobody is blaming anyone, just making sure of what's going so I can give the correct answer. In your case you need to join the ebay VeRO program, which will allow you to get ebay to quickly remove the counterfeit item.

OP1 year agoThank you. I sent a second letter to the offender and he took the listing down.
I’ll join the VeRO program to deal with this situation in the future.
