Sold two items, Ebay doubled the weight, but did not make box dimesions bigger. So now owe $20 extra for shipping usually they increase the box size for increased item quanity

I just sold 2 items. Listed as 2 place setting available. Custormer bought the 2 available. Each individual place setting weighed 5lbs 5 oz and in a box that was 14x13x12. Ebay bundled them, charged $19 for label. Ebay doubled the weight to 10lbs 5 oz and the box size was 14X13X12 the size of box that can hold one 5 piece china place setting. When I went to purchase a label I had to increase the box size as 10 pieces of china will not fit in a box that is 14x13x12. Shipping is now $40. Buyer does not want to pay more shipping. Sale was $150 and do not want to lose the sale. Ebay customer service says if she will not pay I need to cancel the sale or pay the extra $20 myself, as their policy is to leave the box size the same and only double the weight. That would be perfect for a tee shirt, but not 10 pieces of delicate bone china being shipped from West Coast to East Coast. I have been doing this for years. Is this a new thing. Is there a work around?

MentorJul 13, 2026 at 1:17 AM@uniquebydesign1 I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is the way the calculated combined shipping has always worked. eBay has no way of knowing what the box dimensions will need to be once the order is combined.
It is best to use FLAT rate rules for items like this and charge X for the first and X for each additional.
Per eBay Policy you can not ask the buyer to pay more for shipping than stated on the listing.
eBay expects you to complete the sale. If you don't then your only option is to cancel as out of stock, you will get a defect, and the buyer will most likely leave negative feedback.
