Sold item and buyer states shipping is more than what was on the items sold page?
I sold an item today and always use ebay shipping through USPS. The calculated shipping was $46.71 and shows this shipping cost on the item's sold page. I received an email from the buyer stating that shipping is showing him $114.96. Why would this happen?

The buyer is correct. I entered a zip code for New York city as a test and came up with the $114.96.
What you are seeing is the shipping charges to ship it to YOUR location.

You can't change it.
When you use calculated shipping on Ebay, the shipping charges indicated on the listing page are based on the buyer location.
It appears that the shipping charges are correct for the weight & dimensions of the item. Did you correctly enter the weight & dimensions of the prepackaged item?
You can ask the buyer if they want to cancel the transaction.

OP2 years agoYes I did enter the weight and dimensions and was given the $46.71 shipping fee on the items page. Is there a way the buyer can just pay the $46.71 and I would eat the rest of the shipping?
This is odd as the other packages I shipped had no issue at all.

OP2 years agoI just double checked the weight and dimensions on the box and they are correct. I started to fill out a new listing and I am getting a shipping rate through the ebay calculator that shows $47.28
I must be doing something terribly wrong😓

The shipping charges you saw was to ship it your location, that is why you saw $46.71.
I am pretty sure that shipping the item to Michigan will be fairly expensive, much more than $46.71!
If you are sure that you want to eat approximate $70, you can issue a partial refund after they have paid.
In the future, be aware that buyers will see shipping charges based on their location.

OP2 years agoOkay, would you recommend on other items sold that I use a flat rate shipping?
It seems difficult to estimate a shipping as the seller on an item as the seller has no idea on where the item will be shipped until it is sold.

I would stick with calculated shipping, that way a buyer sees the shipping charges to THEIR location.
That is what your buyer in Michigan would have seen on the listing page and what they should have paid you.
Example: The shipping charges for you to ship an item to San Francisco would not be the same to ship to someone in Rhode Island. You want the buyer to pay you for your actual shipping costs.
