Sold a piece of equipment and buyer wants me to dropship to another location which is His customer
Buyer bought a commercial saw from me and wants me to dropship it to his customer in same city, but different address. Never had this before but it does not sit right with me. Not sure what to think about this. It seems to me that when ebay used paypal for all the transactions, paypal would back the seller against claims of damage, etc. But I am sure that there are no such protections with ebay because all they care about is the buyer. Am I being paranoid?

eBay's seller protections require shipping to the address used at checkout. One way to accomplish that is to work with the buyer to cancel and refund due to a problem with buyer address. Relist and then ask the buyer to use the customer address at checkout.
Some sellers will trust their buyers and accommodate the request, and you might do the same because it is the same city. However, considering the price of the item, I would recommend a repurchase.
