Sold a mixer, buyer arranged shipping, it arrived damaged and now they want to return it - now what?
Hi all - I'm sure this has come up before but perhaps not quite like this.
I sold a large mixer to someone ($4500) and the buyer arranged for the shipping. I packed the mixer appropriately and loaded it into the shippers truck. The mixer arrived at the buyer's facility and it was broken (possibly repairable). The buyer is now asking for his money back.
To me it is the fault of his shipper and should be taken up with them.
Ebay is holding payment until it is resolved.
What would you do? Any advice in working with the buyer? We have a cordial relationship and I've acknowledged the damage and have offered to help with the claim. It appears he wants Ebay to resolve it.

According to Ebay, if the buyer arranged their own shipping method they are not covered by Ebay's Money Back Guarantee, therefore you are not responsible. They need to take this up with the shipping company they used.
Did the buyer file a Return Request?

OP1 year agoThank you for this, I was not aware of the policy. That's great news.
The buyer did file a Return Request, which of course, doesn't make sense since it's 2000 lbs and a one off item.
Any other things that you think I should be aware of? It seems like if I don't respond to his request, then eBay will step in. Is that correct? Is there anything else that I would need to do?

In my opinion, it would be wise to contact Ebay and tell them that the buyer arranged their own shipping which negates the MBG.
