·3 years agoYes, they will ask for your SSN so they can report your income to the IRS.

·3 years agoYes, eBay does require your SSN/TIN if you are going to sell.
But that doesn't' necessarily mean that you are NOT being scammed if you get an email requesting it. Never click on any links in emails purporting to be from eBay. Login to your eBay account (NOT using any link in the email) and check My eBay: Messages to see if the same message (from eBay, not a "Message from a member") is in your Inbox there. If not forward the email as an attachment (check with your email app Help on how to do that) to spoof@ebay.com for them to evaluate (in the past they responded with their evaluation in about 24 hours).

Mentor3 years agoIf you want to be a seller, eBay will ask for your checking account number, routing number, and social security number. The money you make is deposited into your checking account. The government requires that all online sellers provide a social security number for issuing 1099s.
