So, are you actually selling your items when you're charging the same or more to ship them? $34 for a hat I found, and then shipping is $50.46? Huh, really, honestly? I'm just not sure I'm that out of touch, but maybe? So anyway, I don't think I can do that, but is the rest of the US doing that without issues? I'm just curious.

The cost of shipping has no relationship to the item price. It's based on the package size and weight, the carrier, the class of service, the distance between buyer and seller, and any handling cost to cover packaging materials the seller might have added.

Shipping of $50.46 seems high, but if the hat has a big brim, the shipping cost may have a surcharge for being over-sized. The seller might also have had to pay up to around $10 just for a carton to ship it in. You might see if you can find the same hat from a seller located closer to you.

Also note that with the terrible economy we're in, the cost of just about everything has gone way up, including shipping. USPS has been having 2-3 price increases a year.

When searching for items, you can filter the results to those with "Free Shipping".

I pay attention only to the TOTAL price of the item + shipping ... not really caring where the seller adds their handling costs and profit.

$40 + $10 s&h = $10 + $40 s&h = $50 + Free shipping. I don't sweat the small stuff.

There are a number of reasons why Sellers "seem" to be over charging for Shipping:

-They have no experience shipping anything and make mistakes when listing their items for sale

-They are using Shipping as an additional profit center

-They think with a lower item price but higher shipping their items will be returned higher in search based on price

-Check the location of the item, if it is in the US then they are over charging for one reason or another.

My customers pay about $ 15.70 for a 2 Lbs coast to coast shipment.
