Mentor2 years ago@danlan5177. Yes but most often what happens is the winner had a higher max bid placed before you.
For example. the winner could have placed a max bid for 100 a few days ago. The visible highest bid is $70. You bid $75 thinking you'll win, however the winner had a hidden max bid of $100 placed before you so they win.
The way to win auctions is to bid the most you are willing to pay for an item at least a few minutes before the end time. Don't "nibble" bid.

Mentor2 years agoOf course it is. The highest valid bid wins, regardless of how or when that bid is placed, as long as it is accepted by eBay before the auction ends.
Sniping is a useful tactic, but it does not allow a lower bid beat a higher bid.
