Sloppy Fulfillment & laborious Return Process : A EBay-Buyer Imposition
Summary: gre_fulle expressed frustration with a seller on eBay for sending the wrong item and the burdensome return process. They feel inconvenienced by having to coordinate the return, including sourcing a suitable box and physically going to USPS. They also pointed out issues with eBay's policy and lack of support in situations where errors occur, leading to dissatisfaction. lady_madonna suggested alternatives for sending the package but acknowledged the limitations faced without a printer. gre_fulle further detailed their attempt to resolve the issue directly with the seller, which led to more complications due to seller policies. disneyshopper explained the typical return process involving eBay, suggesting following the standard return procedures.
The Seller sent me the wrong item and returning it is approved. However, I now find myself burdened with the task of coordinating with the shipper, an unwelcome and highly inconvenient imposition. This entire process is time-consuming and unfairly demands my personal resources. Initially, the order was shipped in a simple plastic bag. Yet, I am required to source a suitable box for the return of this medium-sized 15 x 9 item, and then personally deliver it to USPS. The inconvenience doesn't end there; standing in line adds to the frustration.
My role in this transaction was straightforward: ordering and paying for the product. That was the extent of my expected involvement. The Seller's responsibility was to provide the exact product as advertised, one which I purchased in good faith. This expectation seems unmet, particularly from one particular seller who continue to advertise that they have my originally ordered item in inventory. My simple request was for them to deliver what they claim to have, what I rightfully paid for. This request was surprisingly rejected, leaving me with no choice but to accept a full refund as dictated by eBay. The platform offers no alternative solution, compelling me to incur extra costs to box and return the item. In the end, I am left with nothing, having spent my valuable time and energy on what should have been a straightforward purchase.
This entire experience underscores a deeper issue with the platformโs fulfillment and return process, where buyers are left to shoulder the burden of seller errors. It's an imposition that detracts from the convenience and reliability promised by eBay, leading to dissatisfaction and inconvenience that could easily be mitigated with better policies and customer service practices.

Mentor1 month agoWhen you file a returns request for Item Not as Described, the seller agrees, ebay sends you a link to print out the shipping label (and I assume the QR code if you do not have a printer). When tracking shows Delivered back to the seller, the seller has 2 days to refund you. You can then purchase the correct item from the same seller or another seller.

OP1 month agoSeemingly Ebay uses an AI monitor/editor the rewrites these post -as some of the phrasing and content is different than my original -one key point is missing in the posted version ,specifically : I ask the seller to send me the G4PRO I purchased -along with a return label for the G3PRO they sent me . I committed to use the box they'd send the G4PRO in and the mailing label to return the G3PRO . The seller stated they'd only send the G4PRO after they had evidence that the G3PRO was shipped back to them -but since they offered not even a prepaid mailing label -they seemingly were positing that I pay for return shipping . And then insisted I just use the Ebay return process -whereby I get refunded my purchase price - end of story . How's that for leading edge customer service and poor fulfillment resolution ?

Not all Sellers are like the one you worked with. Not all sellers are customer service oriented or willing to pay for their mistakes which personally I think is really poor. There are like 1.7 MILLION Selling accounts on eBay worldwide. eBay has no real way to know what sellers will or will not do when they cause an issue on a transaction. I wish there was a good way to vet Sellers but you can imagine that would be an arduous task.

OP1 month agoTrue : Used Ebay for over 20 years - they used to be much better at stepping in to right the wrongs

All you have to do is slap the return shipping label on the package and hand it to your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office, no need to stand in line. If it came in a plastic bag, you can ship it in a plastic bag or whatever packaging you can find, like a used box.

OP1 month agoWhere do I get the mailing label ? I don't have a printer and Ebay is not sending a mailing label - I have to scan a code at the USPS - so my assertion is correct .

Mentor1 month agoYou are correct that if you received a QR code, it will need to be scanned to create the label.

I have zero boxes on hand :-) And you are suggesting -for some reason, that not following Ebay's explicit written procedures does will not risk a delay my refund process . Think I'll spend the $5 or less for a box - using a bag puts me at risk if the package is damaged in transit and I did not follow the stated procedure . Damaged shipments are not out of the ordinary -as we know :-)

OP1 month ago ยท EditedThis is the last time I'll subject myself to Ebay's steady march into deeper "E****ification" - Ebay once had much better customer service and response.
