Skepticism about "New" Items
I have been buying from ebay since 12/2003. I love ebay! That said, I have had a few experiences in the past year or two where items noted as "New without tags" hardly appeared to be new. These items also had a "Buyer does not accept returns" policy. I am not interested in being a troublemaker or negatively impacting anyone's business but am deeply skeptical about the practice of passing off used items as new seems to be increasing. It's wrong, period. I highly encourage ebay to strongly reinforce that preowned items should never be represented as new. I expect you will say that I should address the issue with the sellers. I have, and:
they insist that the item is new
they apologize for any misunderstanding
they do not accept returns
It is not worth my time or energy to fight these "battles." It IS worth my time and energy to request that you
please, please, please reinforce that INTEGRITY is expected from every ebay seller.
Please restore my faith in ebay. Thank you.

Sellers already know that integrity is expected. Just like in the non-eBay world, people know the difference between right and wrong, but sadly some don't seem to have a conscience.
If this happens, you don't have to fight any battles. Here's what to do...
If you received an item that is not as described, no matter what the seller's return policy is, you have up to 30 days to open a return using the option next to the transaction in your Purchase History. The seller will have 3 business days to provide a prepaid return shipping label or else refund. If he does neither, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.

OP9 months agoThank you. I appreciate that you took the time to respond. This matter of something being "new without tags" is murky, as it involves perception. That said, I will consider the option you graciously shared.
