Skeptical Sale, Nervous about shipping item
Hey everyone….looking for some advice from experienced sellers here.
I recently sold a Morgan Wallen Autographed Guitar for $2,100 and I'm feeling uneasy about the buyer. The account was literally created yesterday, and this was their first purchase — a $2,100 high-value collectible. No feedback, no history, nothing.
I'm worried about a few common scams:
• Fake damage claims using AI-generated photos to file an Item Not As Described (INAD)
• "Item Not Received" claims even after delivery
• Buyer using the new account to avoid detection
I've already documented the guitar thoroughly with video before shipping, but I haven't sent it out yet.
Has anyone dealt with a brand new account purchasing a high-dollar item like this? Did you go through with the sale or cancel? And if you shipped — did it go smoothly or did something go sideways?
Any advice on how to protect myself if I do decide to ship would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mentor4 months ago1. They don't even need to generate fake photos, just open an INAD case and you will be paying to get it back.
2. For an item that price you are required to ship with Signature Confirmation.
3. They may have created the account because they saw your item and wanted it.
4. Your videos don't mean much because no one is going to look at your video.
There is no way to protect yourself 100% other than not selling on eBay. It's been said don't list anything that you don't want to possible lose.

… nobody is looking at those photos. Once a ‘not as described’ case is open, you will be refunding. How you handle that case will determine if the item is returned to you or not.
False report of item not received

“Documenting” the packaging is a waste of time. There is no one and no place to send these “documents”.
The time to worry about who the buyer might be, is before the item is listed.
Take the gut feeling you have right now and play it back to yourself every time you list an item.
Never list what you can’t afford to take a loss on.
Losses are an expense on your taxes.
If you don’t ship it, eBay will give you a defect. The buyer is free to leave feedback of their choice.
