Site changes mess up dark mode
eBay's bright white interface is hard on my eyes, making it difficult or impossible to use, and there is no dark mode on the site. I use the "Dark Reader" browser extension to turn it dark (this is Chrome, but the extension works on any major browser). This worked fine here for years, until today. Now I can't see basic labels and controls, as they display black on black and can only be found by groping around til I hit a mouseover tag.
Tried on two different systems, was actually worse on current Chrome. (Couldn't see images in major categories, they display as black shadows.)
Not burning my eyes to buy stuff, so using the site in default glare white mode is not an option.

OP8 months agoThanks, I'll give that a try. I can do a bunch of customizing in DarkReader too (and it remembers per site), but point is normally I don't have to, and it used to work fine -- whatever changes they just did messed up their stylesheet so it doesn't all invert gracefully, as it did before. Evidently not tested outside of the default before deployment.

It is possible that eBay will correct whatever issue you are currently seeing with Dark Reader, or perhaps Dark Reader will address things on their end.

Mentor8 months agoYou might consider trying a browser add-on called "Color Changer".
Color Changer allows users to specify colors using a color wheel separately for text, background and links on each site, and it can be quickly enabled or disabled using an icon in the browser tool bar.
It is not perfect, and has some odd side effects that can prevent certain icons like the notification bell from appearing in color, and from time to time I need to disable it entirely to see a pop-up window that will not render correctly, but overall, changing the background color to a pleasant grey rather than stark white saves me from a great deal of eye strain.
