Shouldn’t eBay penalize sellers for sending wrong items
I contacted the several sellers BEFORE I bought some Mr. Clean gloves to ensure that the gloves were the same ones a pictured in their listing. I explained the different versions available and how the boxes were different. Several sellers wrote back and said they had the newer versions. I was looking for the older version. 2 sellers verified that they were the same gloves as pictured and one seller sent me a photo of what he had, which was the older version. However, I did not receive the gloves pictured in their listing, but a different version with a different box. Each one told me that to get a refund I had to initiate a return. I did. But I should not have to return the ones sent because I verified what they were sending BEFORE ordering so as to avoid the hassle of dealing with returns. I did not want to deal with repacking and going to the post office so I contacted sellers to verify the order first. eBay did not refund my money because I did not return the items. But I shouldn’t have to because they lied to make the sale, and sent a product that was different than their listing pictured. If eBay lets their sellers get away with this, I see that as a huge problem. @members @ members @

Mentor2 years agoI understand your frustration. Sounds like the seller might have their inventory at a different location and couldn't check to be sure. Returns do penalize sellers.
You are dealing with different sellers when you send messages, not eBay. Some sellers have more tact than others. The messages you received were from the sellers, not eBay.
Open a return request stating the reason as not as described. The seller will have to either provide you with a pre-paid return label or just refund you outright.

Mentor2 years ago@jan-blondie. I understand that it's a hassle to return an item but the not as described return request goes on the sellers record. That's how eBay tracks this type of problem.
The seller also pays the return shipping.

OP2 years agoThat does not solve the inconvenience that is imposed on me, due to them lying to me to make a sale. I verified with them before ordering that their listing was the original version of some gloves, as their photo showed. I described the new version with the new box that I did not want, and they reported back to me that their listing was accurate. They had the old version. But that wasn’t true. So, why do I have to inconvenience myself and go drive across town, to stand in holiday lines to return 3 packages from 3 different sellers when they outright lied to me? I wrote to 8 people, and 5 were honest. 3 were not. Instead of helping me get an hassle free refund, eBay sent me a letter calling me an abusive buyer because they think the items are as described. But they are not. That’s why I explained it before I bought, and described the changes to the items and the change to the box, since the product was updated. The eBay employee didn’t comprehend the issue and wrote me up.
The other major online platforms have a different approach. If the seller sells something different than their listing shows, the buyer gets to keep the item AND is refunded. That keeps the sellers honest. On eBay, the buyers are inconvenienced and many won’t bother to return the item. The sellers count on this and can get away with selling unethically. I think the other platforms may be onto something….

Mentor2 years ago@jan-blondie. We are volunteers and can only offer advice on how eBay's system works.
Here's how to contact eBay customer service:
eBay agents are working from home so you have to request a call back or live chat.
1. CLICK THIS LINK: https://www.ebay.com/help/contact_us?id=4191&st=10
2. Click Automated chat on the left hand side of the screen. ( Trust me)
3. Type AGENT in the small box on the lower right of the linked page then you will see the options to contact a live agent, you may have to answer the chat bots questions before it allows you to connect to an agent, this is so you are connected to the correct department. If the bot asks another question after you answered type AGENT again. Then you will see the option to request a call back or live chat.
If you are located outside of US or Canada then you will need to use the Chat option or Social Media
4. Or you can also contact customer service by sending a private message on social media. You leave a message and an eBay employee will get back to you as soon as possible. To speed things up you can leave your registered account information in the PRIVATE message: Full name, address, phone number, email address, user ID, and a brief explanation of your problem.
