Shoplifting
Should eBay and other resale sites do more vetting when it comes to "stores" that are attempting to sell goods that have been shoplifted? Below is a video by Cash Jordan, a journalist in NYC, who is sounding the alarm on the increasing shoplifting problem and how resale sites are aiding and abetting (even if unknowingly) this practice. I understand this makes money for the sites, but it also adversely impacts the low income in our communities since costs are increased in brick and mortar stores because of their need to increase prices in order to cover some of these losses.

Mentor2 years ago@westfam2 eBay does work with police and law enforcement to help reduce this issue.
One of the ways is sellers are required to provide all personal information including including SS# under the "know your customer law"
Another thing that eBay does is if the see a new seller selling high priced items ( cellphones etc) they require the seller to provide receipts. New seller also have selling limits.
Not saying that this stops every bad actor but it does reduce the problems, much better than on sites like FB market place. We have people coming here daily for help that tried to "buy" a car on FB with eBay Gift Cards. This should be an obvious scam but people sadly fall for it. The scammers use eBay's good name and guarantee as proof of "protection" for their victims.

Mentor2 years agoeBay does have some safeguards in place. If a new seller is selling brand new items, like tools, etc that are high risk of being stolen, they request receipts from the seller. If they can't provide them, they are suspended.
